HC Deb 09 November 1937 vol 328 c1620W
Mr. Day

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he will state the net amount received in Stamp Duties on the various policies for life, fire, accident, etc., for the 12 months ended to the last convenient date; and will he state the number of industrial policies so stamped?

Lieut.-Colonel Colville

The net receipt of Stamp Duty on insurance policies of all kinds (life, fire, accident, etc.) was £393,292 in the year ended 31st March, 1937. It is not possible to give the number of policies so stamped, but the hon. Member will find some information as to the number of industrial assurances issued annually on page 6 of the Statistical Summaries (1926–36) relating to Industrial Assurance compiled by the Industrial Assurance Commissioner.
