HC Deb 04 November 1937 vol 328 c1147W
Mr. Anstruther-Gray

asked the President of the Board of Trade, whether his attention has been drawn to the registration of the Property Owners' War Risks Mutual Society, Limited, with the object of insuring property against war risks; and to what extent the registration implies approval by the Board of Trade of the objects of the company?

Captain Wallace

My attention has been drawn to the registration of the Company referred to. The scheme promoted by the Company is, I understand, not one of insurance of property against war risks in that no guarantee of indemnity is given; but one of its objects is to provide, within the limits of the fund which may be accumulated, such compensation or benefits as circumstances may permit in the event of loss by war damage to members' property. As regards the last part of the question, the formal act of registration simply shows that the Company has complied with the requirements of the Companies Act, 1929, and does not imply official approval or otherwise of the objects of the Company.
