HC Deb 03 November 1937 vol 328 c960W
Colonel Sandeman Allen

asked the Secretary of State for War what is the estimated saving per officer by the half-a-horse per officer for the mechanised artillery scheme?

Sir V. Warrender

The annual saving, including the cost of maintenance, resulting from the reductions in officers' chargers in mechanised Artillery Brigades, is estimated at approximately £14,250 a year. The number of chargers so reduced is 311. The annual saving in respect of each charger is therefore approximately £46 and the saving per officer approximately £23. This reduction follows on the policy of mechanisation which has been in progress for some time.
