HC Deb 02 November 1937 vol 328 c751W
Mr. T. Henderson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he can give any figures showing the movement in the cost of building working-class houses in Scotland since the summer; and whether there is an increase or a decrease compared with the same period last year in the number of houses approved for construction with the aid of a State grant?

Mr. Elliot

The average cost per house of all the houses for which tenders were approved by the Department of Health in the third quarter of 1937 exceeded the cost in the second quarter of 1937 by £16. The number of houses approved for construction with State assistance in the third quarter of 1937 was 3,549 as against 9.647 for the corresponding quarter of last year.
