HC Deb 02 November 1937 vol 328 c740W
Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is prepared to support the allocation of a small sum, varying locally according to needs, to each Employment Exchange to be used at the discretion of the manager for payment of local fares of applicants, shaves for those about to apply for work, and other exceptional assistance which cannot easily be allowed for in rigid regulations?

Mr. Butler

I have every sympathy with the object the hon. Member has in mind, but I fear that it would not be feasible to provide public funds for use in the circumstances he describes.
