§ Mr. Markhamasked the Home Secretary what protective regulations are in force in regard to the use of oxy-acetylene and electric welding processe, and whether any such regulations apply to assistants as well as to welders?
§ Mr. LloydElectric welding is subject to the Electricity Regulations made under Section 79 of the Factory and Workshop Act, 1901, which afford protection against electrical risks in any place to which that Section applies; and both electric welding and oxy-acetylene welding in shipbuilding yards are subject to special provisions in the Shipbuilding Regulations. In other factories and workshops the general provisions of the Factory Acts apply as regards ventilation, etc. All these provisions afford protection to assistants as well as welders. In addition memoranda have been issued by the Factory Department setting forth the safety measures required in these processes, and I am sending copies to the hon. Member.
