HC Deb 03 May 1937 vol 323 c802W
Mr. Thorne

asked the Home Secretary whether he can give the House any information in connection with the appointment of a chief inspector as adviser for the development of police records; if he can state whether the position was advertised; and, if so, can he say how many applied for the position?

Mr. Lloyd

The Home Office has recently issued to county and borough police forces a model scheme of crime records. This is a highly technical matter and it was clearly desirable that technical assistance should be available to forces engaged in putting the scheme into operation. By arrangement with the West Riding Police Authority and Chief Constable, whose assistance in the matter is gratefully acknowledged, my right hon. Friend has been able to obtain on a temporary basis the services of an officer who has had long experience in this work and acted as secretary of the committee which drew up the record scheme. The post was not advertised.
