HC Deb 03 May 1937 vol 323 cc798-9W
Sir J. Wardlaw-Milne

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any proposal has been made for compensation to be paid to the staff of the Egyptian Mixed Courts; and what is the present position in the matter?

Mr. Eden

There is at present before the drafting committee of the Capitulations Conference a proposal by the Norwegian delegation which deals with the pension rights of those members of the staff of the Mixed Courts, including the magistrature, who will not have reached the age limit at the expiry of the transitional period. This proposal is receiving the support of the United Kingdom delegation.

Mr. Hopkin

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can report on the progress of the Capitulations Conference at Montreux?

Mr. Eden

The conference is proceeding satisfactorily. The hon. Member will appreciate, however, that I am not in a position to make any detailed statement while negotiations are still in progress.
