HC Deb 25 March 1937 vol 321 cc3094-5W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Secretary of State for War what steps are being taken in drawing up contracts to ensure that contractors engaged on the construction of new War Department works in rural districts provide adequate and proper accommodation for workmen, and also arrange for their transfer on the completion of the work whence they came or to another site; and whether he is aware that the plan of depending upon local labour is having a serious effect on agricultural production and is not in any way helping to find work for unemployed persons in the Special Areas?

Mr. Cooper

I am having inquiries made regarding the matter and will communicate with my hon. and gallant Friend as early as possible.
