HC Deb 25 March 1937 vol 321 cc3072-3W
Dr. Leech

asked the Minister of Labour, whether in view of the long-continued unfilled demand of the catering trades for British-born waiters, he will devise fresh plans for replacing foreign waiters by recruiting unemployed youths from the special areas and by selecting and training from the general registers of unemployed persons suitable adults who are physically unsuited for heavier employment?

Mr. E. Brown

There is a waiters' class at the Park Royal Government Training Centre which is open to young men from the Special Areas and which is adequate for the number of such persons from those areas at present willing to undertake this form of training. Every effort is made to obtain suitable persons for this form of training, and if a larger number could be obtained provision of additional facilities would be put in hand.
