HC Deb 25 March 1937 vol 321 c3079W
Mr. Kelly

asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the accidents from machinery met with by agricultural workers, the factory inspectors visit the farm works to inspect for health and safety?

Sir J. Simon

The Factory Acts do not apply to agriculture and the factory inspectors do not therefore inspect farms or farm works used for agricultural purposes.

Mr. Kelly

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he has any return showing the number of farm workers who met with injury from accidents whilst operating agricultural machinery during 1935 and 1936; and how many of these accidents proved fatal?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

There is no statutory provision requiring agricultural employers to furnish particulars with regard to accidents to their employés, and I am, therefore, unable to supply the hon. Member with an official return giving the figures for which he asks.
