HC Deb 25 March 1937 vol 321 c3075W
Mr. C. Wilson

asked the Minister of Labour whether in the case of domestic service, his Department has definite standards regarding wages, hours, holidays, living accommodation, etc.; and, if so, can he state what these are?

Mr. E. Brown

Before notifying a vacancy to an applicant for domestic employment, my officers inquire about the matters referred to in the hon. Member's question, and satisfy themselves that the conditions are not below those current in the district. Conditions naturally differ according to the locality, the nature of the post, the experience required and other circumstances, and it is therefore impracticable to lay down any rigid standards.
