HC Deb 24 March 1937 vol 321 c2920W
Mr. Stephen

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can state the number of applications for naturalisation by Jews in Palestine last year; the number granted; and the general grounds for refusal of such applications?

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

I have no information as to the number of applications by Jews last year, but the total number of applications from all sources was 5,444. The number of Jews actually naturalised in 1936 was 4,847. I am not in a position to say on what grounds any application was refused.
