§ Mr. Duncanasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the fact that Nigeria is no longer bound by the provision for commercial equality in the Anglo-French Convention of 1898, it is now proposed to introduce Imperial preference in Nigeria?
§ Mr. Ormsby-GoreNo substantial tariff changes are contemplated in the Nigerian Estimates for the coming financial year. Nor is it proposed to make any change in the system of textile quotas which was recently introduced. Having regard to the importance on general grounds of avoiding fresh interference in the flow of international trade, His Majesty's Government do not think it desirable that a system of Imperial preference should be introduced into Nigeria at the present time.
