HC Deb 17 March 1937 vol 321 c2084W
Mr. Tinker

asked the President of the Board of Trade what method his Department takes when new works are started to ascertain what rates of wages are paid, and where such wages are below the recognised standard what action is taken?

Dr. Burgin

My right hon. Friend has no general authority to deal with wages and I understand that no action of the kind referred to is taken in regard to new works unless the wages in the industry concerned fall under some form of statutory regulation.
