HC Deb 17 March 1937 vol 321 c2087W
Mr. McGovern

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will take steps to bring to the notice of the Lanarkshire County Council the urgent necessity of housing Mr. Andrew Cowen, 44, Hill Street, Larkhall, Lanarkshire, who lives in a single apartment house with his wife and nine children, five of whom are over 14 years of age; and is he aware that the mother is just home from Glasgow Royal Infirmary after a serious operation, that Andrew Cowen won the military medal and afterwards a bar to the medal, and that his health and that of his wife and family are being undermined in these overcrowded conditions?

Mr. Elliot

I am informed that the facts are as stated in the question, and that the hon. Member can be assured that the county council who have the circumstances fully in view will do their utmost to see that suitable accommodation is provided for the family at the earliest possible moment.
