§ Mr. Parkerasked the President of the Board of Education whether he will state the total acreage and the total number of playing fields now provided for State-aided elementary and secondary schools, respectively, in the country as a whole and separately in the various counties and county boroughs in the United Kingdom?
Mr. StanleyI am afraid I am not able to give a precise answer to the hon. Member's question so far as schools in England and Wales are concerned, partly because complete records have been kept only since 1930–31, and partly because it is not possible to distinguish in every case between a playing field and a school playground. I have, however, a considerable amount of information on the subject which I am sending him. As regards school playing fields in Scotland, I would refer the hon. Member to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State.
