HC Deb 16 March 1937 vol 321 c1877W
Mr. T. Williams

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can state how many natives from Northern Rhodesia had migrated for labour purposes to other territories in the last year for which statistics are available, including the census; and what proportion of the adult male population this constitutes?

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

It was estimated at the end of 1935 that the number of natives from Northern Rhodesia working outside the Protectorate was 49,000 or about 13 per cent. of the adult male native population.
