HC Deb 09 March 1937 vol 321 c987W
Mr. Sandys

asked the Secretary of State for War what alternative arrangements have been made to take the place of the post of inspector, Royal Tank Corps, which has been abolished?

Mr. Cooper

Owing to the increasing importance in the Army of armoured fighting vehicles generally, of which tanks form only a part, it was found necessary to create a special branch in the War Office to deal with and co-ordinate all matters appertaining to these vehicles. The duties of the Inspector, Royal Tank Corps, have been largely absorbed in those of the officer in charge of the new branch, the first holder of which post is a senior officer of the Royal Tank Corps.
