HC Deb 04 March 1937 vol 321 cc547-8W
Lieut.-Commander Fletcher

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty under what circumstances the destroyers "Crescent" and "Cygnet" have been transferred to the Canadian Navy; whether this transfer will involve this country in the expense of building two destroyers in substitution; and what price the Canadian Government has paid for these destroyers?

Lord Stanley

His Majesty's ships "Crescent" and "Cygnet" were sold to the Canadian Government at their request to replace His Majesty's Canadian ships "Vancouver" and "Champlain" which were due to be scrapped. It is not intended to build two new destroyers in substitution for these vessels. The agreed price for the two vessels was £400,000.
