HC Deb 04 March 1937 vol 321 cc553-4W
Mr. Viant

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will ask His Majesty's Ambassador in China to make a report on the new draft Constitution of China and the forthcoming Convention of the People's Assembly, with particular reference to the probable effect upon the position of the Kuomintang party in the State?

Viscount Cranborne

As the hon. Member is no doubt aware, the draft Constitution was proclaimed in May last year; the National People's Congress was originally to have been convened last November, but has now been postponed until next November. His Majesty's Ambassador furnished my right hon. Friend with a full report on the subject in June last year, and I have no doubt that he will keep him fully informed of future developments without further instructions.
