HC Deb 02 March 1937 vol 321 c188W
Colonel Ropner

asked the Minister of Labour what was the number of male and female agricultural workers in the West Riding of Yorkshire who received unemployment insurance benefit during the month of January, 1937; and what proportion of these were under the age of 21?

Mr. E. Brown,

pursuant to his reply (OFFICIAL REPORT, 25th February, 1937; cols. 2166–7, Vol. 320) supplied the following statement:

Statistics showing the number of separate individuals who received benefit in any month are not available. The average number of persons to whom payments of agricultural benefit were made each week during January, 1937, at Employment Exchanges in the West Riding of Yorkshire, was 786, including 578 males and 208 females. Approximately 5 per cent. of the males and 20 per cent. of the females were under the age of 21.
