SassoonThe majority of the services for which my Department is responsible are carried out by contractors on the basis of lump-sum tenders for the completed works, and the Department has no information as to the prices paid for materials in such cases. Materials purchased directly by the Department cover only a small range of mainenance services, and an analysis of the prices would be of little or no value as a guide to general price variations.
