HC Deb 09 June 1937 vol 324 cc1772-3W
Mr. Bull

asked the Minister of Transport (1) whether he is aware that the Cambridge arterial road, which is a single-track road of 27 feet width, is inadequate to carry the amount of traffic which uses it; and whether any proposal has been put to his Department for the widening of the road;

(2) whether it is proposed to convert the Cambridge arterial road from a single- track road to a double-track road; and, if so, whether he can give any indication as to when this work will be undertaken?

Mr. Burgin

Proposals to construct dual carriageways on this road are now under consideration and I hope that work will be started this year.

Mr. Bull

asked the Minister of Transport whether he can state the number of fatal accidents which have occurred on the Cambridge arterial road within the last five years?

Mr. Burgin

During the five years ended 31st May, 1937, there were 42 fatal accidents on the Cambridge arterial road.
