HC Deb 20 July 1937 vol 326 c1983W
Colonel Ropner

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that there is a growing tendency for town dwellers to rent or buy rural workers' cottages for occasional occupation, and that this is leading to an acute shortage of houses in many rural areas near industrial centres; and whether he proposes to introduce further legislation to deal with rural housing?

Mr. Bernays

My right hon. Friend is aware of the difficulties to which my hon. and gallant Friend refers. The question of the supply of housing accommodation for the agricultural population is at present being considered by the Central Housing Advisory Committee, and my right hon. Friend is hoping to receive shortly a report from them. My right hon. Friend will give early consideration to the question of legislation in the light of their report.
