asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the average number of vehicles in use by the various naval departments for the carriage of goods, stores, and equipment in 1920 and 1936, respectively; and what was the approximate quantity and cost of petrol used in each case?

The number of vehicles with internal combustion engines used by Naval Departments for the purposes mentioned was 383 in 1920 and 365 in 1936. In the latter year these vehicles consumed approximately 270,700 gallons of petrol costing £14,100. The corresponding information for 1920 is no longer available.
