HC Deb 17 February 1937 vol 320 c1200W
Sir A. Wilson

asked the Home Secretary whether and, if so, when legislation will be introduced to give effect to the recommendations of the Departmental Committee on the statutory definition and classification of firearms arid ammunition?

Mr. Lloyd

Effect was given to the great majority of those recommendations of the Committee which needed legislation by the Firearms (Amendment) Act, 1936, which received Royal Assent on 31st July, 1936, and which will come into operation on 1st May next. The Firearms Bill which was read a third time and passed on the 15th February is a consolidating Measure embodying the Act of 1936 and previous Acts. This Bill is also expressed to come into operation on the 1st May, 1937.
