HC Deb 17 February 1937 vol 320 cc1193-4W
Mr. E. J. Williams

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the apprehension felt by local authorities over the recommendations in the McGowan Report; and whether he has any statement to make on the matter?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

Views expressed on behalf of local authorities will receive due attention.

Mr. Garro Jones

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that the Electricity Commissioners are offering guidance and advice to authorised undertakers as regards future policy in view of prospective legislation anticipated by the Commissioners in accordance with the McGowan Report; whether this action on the part of the Commissioners has his approval; and, if not, whether he will inform them that, in view of the fact that they are a statutory body, they should refrain from such action until the House has had an opportunity of deciding what steps, if any, shall be taken in connection with the report?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

I am not aware that the Electricity Commissioners have in any respect exceeded their statutory powers or duty.
