HC Deb 12 February 1937 vol 320 c730W
Lord Apsley

asked the Minister of Labour whether taking the last returns in the Ministry of Labour Gazette of unemployment among seamen, he can state how such unemployment is divided up among the different grades of workers on board ships.

Mr. E. Brown

I regret that information is not available which would enable the numbers of insured persons recorded as unemployed in the shipping industry classification to be analysed so as to show separately the different grades of workers on board ship. The figures include, moreover, in addition to seamen, a number of persons who are normally employed in non-sea-going occupations.
