HC Deb 11 February 1937 vol 320 c611W
Mr. Kelly

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, seeing that the War Office has now taken possession by warrant under Section 19 of the Defence Act, 1842, of approximately 36¼ acres of land belonging to the Monk's Park estate, near Corsham, that the War Office had offered for this land compensation of £2,500 to the owner and £100 to the tenant for his interest, and that these offers were refused, he will say what terms these parties were willing to accept to give up possession; whether the matter has been taken to arbitration and, if so, what was the arbitrator's award; and for what purpose the land is intended to be used?

Sir V. Warrender

No claims have been received from the parties concerned. An arbitrator has been appointed but the case has not yet been heard. It is intended to use this land for the construction of a store depot.
