HC Deb 11 February 1937 vol 320 c614W
Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any decision has been reached in Kenya Colony upon the question of Income Tax; whether there has been any compromise agreed on which treats the Moyne formula as the recognised limit of expenditure on native services; and whether any official approval has been given to the formula or to the interpretation that it should be regarded as the maximum of expenditure?

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

It has been decided to introduce Income Tax in Kenya, and I understand that the necessary legislation is now being considered. As regards the second and third parts of the question I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave to a question by the hon. Member for Chesterfield (Mr. Benson) on 1st February.
