asked the Minister of Health what was the total number of houses built in England and Wales by private enterprise and by local authorities, respectively, and what was the approximate cost to the State during the years 1930 to 1936, inclusive?

The number of houses in England and Wales in respect of which Exchequer contributions were made and the amount of the contributions paid in each year from 1930–31 to 1935–36 are included in the table on page 252 of the Annual Report of the Ministry of Health for 1935–36. The total numbers of houses built during those years are shown below.
