asked the President of the Board of Education whether the proposed purchase by the Nottingham Corporation of the old Trinity schools, on a site of 1,307 square yards, has been taken to arbitration and, if so, what was the arbi-

April, 1924, and on 1st April, 1935; administrative, general executive, general clerical, writing assistant, established shorthand-typist and typist; other executive, departmental clerical, unestablished clerical, unestablished typing, assessors, collectors of taxes, etc., inspectorate, professional, scientific and technical, subordinate supervisory and technical, minor and manipulative, messengers, porters, cleaners, etc.?

The earliest date for which information regarding the numbers employed in the Civil Service is available in the form required is the 1st January, 1928, and for the position as at that date I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given him by my predecessor on the 8th April, 1935, of which I am sending him a copy.

The statement below shows the position at the 1st April, 1935.

This matter was taken to arbitration on the 5th November, 1936, when the Official Arbitrator under the Acquisition of Land (Assessment of Compensation) Act, 1919, awarded £13,725 in respect of the property and £190 towards the cost of the claimants in respect of fees, expenses and charges of the arbitration. I have no information about the further points referred to in the hon. Member's question.
