Youngasked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he can state the number of people of British stock who have left the Commonwealth of Australia during the past six years; the reason why such people have left the country; and whether all of them or how many of them returned to this country?
Marquess of HartingtonAccording to reports of the Bureau of Census and Statistics of the Commonwealth Government, the number of people of British stock who left Australia during the six years ending 1936 numbered 262,785. If the number of persons of British stock who entered Australia in the same period is deducted, there is an excess of departures over arrivals of 11,557. The reports do not give the reasons for departure of persons leaving Australia or their final destination.
