HC Deb 21 December 1937 vol 330 c1787W
Colonel Ponsonby

asked the Minister of Transport whether he can state the total number of working barges registered with the Port of London Authority, excluding sailing and power-driven craft; and how many of these are of wooden construction?

Mr. Burgin

I am informed by the Port of London Authority that the number is approximately 8,200, of which some 1,400 are of wooden construction.

Colonel Ponsonby

asked the Minister of Transport whether the provision of more craft is required to provide sufficient lighterage facilities for the Port of London at all times of the year; and, if so, what approximate number?

Mr. Burgin

I have no reason to think that the existing supply of barges does not meet all normal requirements.
