asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will state the present deficiency in officers and other ranks, respectively, in the Regular Army; and the figures of recruiting for the Regular Army during the last three months, together with the figures for the same months of last year?

On 1st December last the Regular Army was deficient of 973 officers and 18,990 other ranks. During the three months ended 30th November, 7,211 recruits were obtained, as compared with 5,289 during the corresponding period in 1936, being an increase of 1,922 or about 36 per cent.
