HC Deb 20 December 1937 vol 330 cc1619-20W
Captain Cazalet

asked the Minister of Health (1) whether he has considered the representations in regard to the joint income limit of£250 a year which is imposed on a married woman applicant when her husband is over 55 years of age under the recent Widows', Orphans' and Old Age Contributory Pensions Act, 1937; and whether he will consider taking steps to remedy this hardship;

(2) whether he will consider taking steps under the Widows', Orphans' and Old Age Contributory Pensions Act, 1937, to ensure that, where only the wife is of an age to apply for a pension and where the joint income is under;£400 a year, only half of this income should be taken into consideration?

Sir K. Wood

I am giving consideration to the position to which my hon. and gallant Friend calls attention.
