HC Deb 16 December 1937 vol 330 c1358W
Mr. Riley

asked the Minister of Labour the latest available figures of total and short-time unemployment in the woollen textile industry in Dewsbury, Batley, Bradford, and Huddersfield, respectively?

Mr. E. Brown

The numbers of insured persons recorded as unemployed are ascertained once a month only, and the latest figures of unemployment in the wool textile industry at Dewsbury, Batley, and Bradford, which relate to 15th November were given in my reply to the hon. Member on 8th December.

At 15th November, 1937, 506 insured persons aged 16–64 years, were recorded as wholly unemployed and 2,069 as temporarily stopped in the industry at Huddersfield. There were also recorded as unemployed seven juveniles, under 16 years of age, in respect of whom separate statistics for wholly unemployed and temporarily stopped are not available.
