HC Deb 09 December 1937 vol 330 cc575-6W
Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has considered the resolutions dealing with the damage by deer and eradication of bracken passed recently by a joint conference of the National Farmers' Union of Scotland and representatives of the Highland and Agricultural Society, the Scottish Chamber of Agriculture, the Blackface Sheep Breeders' Association, and the Cheviot Sheep Society; and whether it is the intention of the Government to introduce legislation, or otherwise, to deal with the complaints made?

Mr. Elliot

I have received a copy of the resolution referred to. With regard to damage by deer, the question of devising suitable legislation is being actively considered. With regard to the desire for additional assistance in the eradication of bracken, I can meantime only refer my hon. Friend to my reply to the question asked by the right hon. Member for West Stirlingshire and Clackmannan (Mr. Johnston) on 2nd November last. He will, of course, consider the terms of the resolution.
