HC Deb 09 December 1937 vol 330 c592W
Mrs. Tate

asked the Home Secretary whether any persons suffered imprisonment for non-payment of fines imposed under the Betting Acts between the years 1930 and 1935, inclusive; and how many of these persons had been guilty of no other criminal offence?

Sir S. Hoare

The number of persons received into prison for non-payment of fines imposed under the various enactments relating to betting, gaming and lotteries was as follows:

1930 242
1931 212
1932 224
1933 223
1934 183
1935 199

I cannot say how many of these fines were imposed under the Betting Acts, nor is any information available as to the previous records of the persons concerned.
