§ Mr. G. Griffithsasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the action that has been taken in the Windward Islands for the establishment of a minimum wage for agricultural workers, he will encourage similar action in other territories?
§ Mr. Ormsby-GoreLegislation has been passed in upwards of 30 Colonial territories, under which the Governor in Council is empowered to fix a minimum wage for any occupation in any district in which he is satisfied that the wages for that occupation are unreasonably low. I am not aware of the total number of cases in which a minimum wage has actually been fixed. I am satisfied that Colonial Governments are fully alive to the importance of the question.
