HC Deb 02 December 1937 vol 329 c2285W
Mr. De la Bère

asked the Secretary of State for War in view of the increased mechanisation of the Army, and since the Army educational corps deals with general education and not with mechanical or technical instruction, what facilities he is giving to the ordinary rank and file throughout the Army to become familiar with and obtain the necessary mechanical knowledge which is required throughout the Army to-day?

Sir V. Warrender

Instruction in driving and technical maintenance of mechanical vehicles is given to the men in their units, and, in the case of certain corps, at their depots. The instructors are personnel who have undergone courses in various military schools, such as the Armoured Fighting Vehicles School at Bovington for tracked vehicles, and the Royal Army Service Corps Driving School, Feltham, for wheeled vehicles. Special training vehicles and instructional equipment, such as models and diagrams, have been issued, and more are in process of being issued to units which have recently been mechanised, in order to provide adequate facilities for this type of training.
