HC Deb 02 December 1937 vol 329 c2272W
Mr. R. Gibson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has considered the position in which a Scottish husband, by making a nomination under the Friendly Societies Acts to a relatively small sum held for him by a Friendly Society can defeat his wife's right to receive the sum of £500 from his estate under the Intestate Husband's Estate (Scotland) Act, 1911; and whether the Government proposes to introduce amending legislation to remedy this defect?

Mr. Elliot

This matter has already been brought to my notice and I am in consultation with the Lord Advocate on the subject. I cannot yet state what action, if any, may be advisable.
