HC Deb 02 December 1937 vol 329 c2287W
Mr. Stephen

asked the Minister of Labour what weekly increase of contribution from employer and insured person it is estimated would be necessary to increase unemployment insurance benefits to £1 a week for a man or woman, with 10s. a week for wife or adult dependant, and 5s. for each child, on the basis of the present number of unemployed in receipt of unemployment benefit?

Mr. E. Brown

On the basis mentioned by the hon. Member an increased weekly contribution for adults of 14d. each from employers, employed and the Exchequer would be necessary. I should add that on the basis which the Unemployment Insurance Statutory Committee have adopted for regulating the finance of the Fund the increase would have to be at least 2d. a week from each of the three parties.
