HC Deb 02 December 1937 vol 329 c2279W
Mr. W. Roberts

asked the Minister of Health whether he has considered the application from the Darlington Corporation for power to purchase by compulsory arbitration an area of land for future development as an airport; what is the area and situation of the land; what price has been fixed; if arbitration has taken place; what further capital expenditure is estimated to be incurred for draining, clearing and levelling; and at what value this land has been assessed for rating purposes?

Sir K. Wood

A compulsory purchase order has been confirmed by my Noble Friend the Secretary of State for Air in respect of 320 acres of land situate at Yarm Road, Darlington. I understand that no price has yet been fixed by arbitration or otherwise. No estimate of the further capital expenditure involved has been submitted to me. The great bulk of the land is agricultural and therefore derated.
