HC Deb 22 April 1937 vol 322 c1930W
Mr. W. Roberts

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will state the amount of revenue collected in the year 1936 from duties on maize, linseed, and soya beans; and whether, in view of the difficulties caused to farming and land settlement by the recent rise in the prices of feeding stuffs, he will exempt from duty all feeding stuffs and ingredients thereof required for the use of pigs, poultry, sheep, and cattle?

Mr. Chamberlain

The approximate amount of revenue collected in the year 1936 from Customs duties on maize, linseed and soya beans was £119,000. As regards the question of exemption from duty of feeding stuffs and ingredients thereof for pigs, poultry, sheep and cattle, it is, of course, open to the interests concerned to apply to the Import Duties Advisory Committee for the removal of duty on any such materials, but it should be borne in mind that the maintenance of the duty on some foreign materials of the kind is guaranteed under Ottawa Agreements.
