HC Deb 14 April 1937 vol 322 c1028W
Mr. Anderson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether consideration has been given to the question of developing products in the West African dependencies which will not unduly compete with the products of the West Indies?

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

I am not clear what the hon. Member has in mind. The chief economic products of the West Indian islands are sugar, bananas, mineral oil, cocoa, limes, copra, nutmeg and sea island cotton. Those of British West Africa are palm oil, palm kernels, ground nuts, cocoa, gold, tin, manganese, iron ore and diamonds.
