asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he will state, further to the figures already given of promotions from the lower deck, the proportionate remaining sources of supply for the total entry into the Royal Navy as officers in the years 1934, 1935 and 1936?

Apart from the lower deck promotions referred to in the reply to the hon. Member for Romford (Mr. Parker) on the 5th November the remaining sources of supply of Officers of the Royal Navy were divided in the following proportions:

1934. 1935. 1936.
Dartmouth Cadets 44.1 48.4 40.3
Cadets entering by the Special Entry Examination from Public Schools, etc. 26.9 29.4 37.3
Cadets entering from Mercantile Marine Training Establishments. 3.9 3.2 5.1
Officers entering from Civil Life after professional training as Doctors, Dentists, Instructors, Chaplains and Schoolmasters. 25.1 19.0 17.3
