Mr. PARKER

asked the Secretary of State for War how many men have been promoted from the other ranks in the Army to become officers in each of the last three years; and what percentage of the total new officers they were in each of these three years?

Mr. COOPER

During the last three financial years the numbers of men promoted from the ranks to become officers were 76, 92 and 117 respectively. The percentages these figures bear to the total number of new officers appointed are 13, 15.5 and 15.5.
