HC Deb 09 November 1936 vol 317 cc518-9W
Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the complaints of ratepaying hotel and boarding house keepers, especially at small seaside resorts, that farmers in the same neighbourhood who are completely derated are making large profits by taking in boarders on a considerable scale in competition with them; and will he look into this anomaly with a view to its removal?

Sir K. WOOD

I have received a few representations on this subject. The matter is not one in which I have any jurisdiction which would enable me to intervene, but I may point out that farmhouses are not exempt from rating.
